Jumping through hoops for Macmillan

I have just returned from an annual trip to a health spa with three friends. Normally I would try to fit in as many pampering treatments as possible in the vain hope of returning home relaxed, de-stressed, sereen & gorgeous. In reality I usually end up sluggish & head-achey (effects of de-toxification) and moreover ... broke. Despite this we always return because we have a great laugh together and laughing is good for the soul.

This year, because I need to get fit for Kili (and have been finding it really difficult to motivate myself), I decided to make the most of the exercise classes, organised activities and gym.

A power walk before breakfast and a country walk after lunch - fab!

In the gym circuit session I was re-acquainted with my old enemies the cross trainer and the stepper which must surely have been invented by an evil sadist. At the end of the hour session my face matched the colour of my fuschia top - I looked as if I was about to explode.

Then came the hoola hoop class. Unlike the hoola hoops of my childhood this monster was huge and weighted. Having mastered the technique of keeping the hoop circling around our waists the lesson quickly progressed to a full range of aerobic movements - grape vine, squats, lunges, box steps, leg curls etc. whilst maintaining a circling hoop. What a fab exercise, I was so impressed I bought one to bring home. Hoola hooping is now officially the key to my winter exercise regime - I will while away the winter evenings, hoola hooping whilst watching the telly. Hopefully, Mark and Harry will sit well back in their sofas, otherwise they may well end up getting their teeth knocked out!
