A right pair of 'nanas.

Today Mark and I collected funds on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support outside Tescos store at Copdock in Ipswich, once again dressed in our banana outfits.

As Mark hasn't been given a Macmillan sash to wear, he wears a Macmillan T shirt over the top of the banana costume. The neck of the T shirt wasn't large enough to fit over the top of the banana so he made it wider by unpicking the shoulder seams. Unfortunately each time he has put it on the neck hole has ripped wider, the result being that the T shirt now slips down to become an uncomfortable off-the-shoulder number. To make matters worse, the costume was designed for a much shorter person (i.e. the likes of me) so the yellow foam stretches taut over his forehead and the head hole is now fraying at the edges under the strain. Overall this makes his costume extremely uncomfortable - I give him full credit for even entertaining the idea of wearing it. Give that husband of mine a medal!

Lots of smiles, laughter, banter, generosity and 8 hours later we had collected £615.83 for Macmillan.

There's one thing for certain, from the comments that were made during the day - many people are (rightly) very appreciative of the work that Macmillan nurses do.

Today has been exhausting, but enjoyable.

Tomorrow it will be Lisa & Justins turn!

  1. Hi Ashley,
Well done on your collection total, it looks like you had a great day. You and your husband look brilliant! Did you pick up your son in said banana outfit in the end?!

  2. No we decided not to embarrass him. A good thing as I probably wouldn't have got the big hug that he gave me if I'd been a banana!
